Management Toolbox BASIS

Small and Medium Enterprises operate with limited financial resources and management capacities. They are facing increasing pressure to comply with a variety of standards and this can easily force small producers out of the market.

gebana ag is a trading company specialising in fairtrade products. Its suppliers are mainly small rural producers in remote regions in Africa and South America. gebana ag is committed to high standards in quality, ecology and social issues.

BSD was asked to develop tools to improve the compliance of operators in the food supply chain with quality, ecological and social standards. These standards contain many specific performance requirements concerning qualitative, ecological and social issues. However, most of these standards rely on the same management tools (e.g. client expectations analysis, policy, process mapping, risk analysis, implementation, training, documentation etc.)

With funding from the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and in cooperation with gebana ag (Switzerland), gebana maghreb (Tunisia) and gebana afrique (Burkina Faso), BSD developed the BASIS Management Toolbox. The Toolbox has been successfully tested amongst the company’s supplying organisations.
